Vital (Synth)

This is the easiest to use FREE synth available (very similar to Serum and Massive). We use this for most of our videos so everyone can follow along without needing to crack plugins.

However, it’s not ‘best sounding synth’ in the world so eventually you’ll want to expand your palette and get other synths. Checkout our buying guide here 

VCV Rack (Synth)

If you are interested in creating weird unique sounds, modular synthesis is a common method. This method of synthesis gives you the most flexility to craft sounds.

At first you may find it confusing patching cables but VCV rack is a great place to learn the fundamentals. 

Paul Stretch

Simply import an audio file and you can stretch it for hours… 

Great for creating:

  • Pads 
  • Ambient textures 
  • Risers & Fx

 

GOYO Voice Separator

This plugin can reduce the amount of reverb/room noise from your vocals. 

Flux Mini 2 (Sidechain Effect)

Free Alternative to the Following Plugins

  • LFO Tool
  • VolumeShaper
  • Kickstart  

Simply select the “fakechain” preset and adjust the timing to taste.

Tal Chorus LX

This chorus an emulation from the classic Juno synths.

This works great on a range of sounds from synth keys, basses, guitars and sometimes vocals. 

Supermassive (Reverb/Delay)

Great for massive delays and reverbs.

Tip 1 – Stack multiple reverbs together.

Tip 2 – Automate the Delay time and listen to the effect it creates.

Span (Spectral Analyser)

It’s always best to use your ears when making music. However, spectral analysers can help you to identify problems when sound designing or mixing.

It has several features including:

  • Frequency spectrum
  • Phase indicator
  • RMS & Peak Level Meter 

Find the BPM & Key of Songs

This website can identify the BPM & Key of songs.

Alternatively, you can use programs that automatically add BPM and Key metadata to all the songs in your music collection.

Pick whichever method you find most convenient!”

Find Songs To Sample

You can sort music by the BPM, Key, Genre, Country and more. You could use this website as a method for music discovery and inspiration for your next song.

If you are sampling the tracks, beware that the music is copyrighted so you will need to get the samples cleared… 

Tap BPM

DAWs usually have a Tap Tempo feature sometimes its more convenient to use this Tap Tempo website.
